Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, is a flammable, colorless chemical compound.

It is one of the alcohols that you will find often found in your usual alcoholic beverages. This website will endeavour to cover many different uses for Ethanol with particular focus on its viability as an alternative fuel for the future.

The largest single use of ethanol is as a motor fuel and fuel additive. The largest national fuel ethanol industries exist in Brazil. The Brazilian ethanol industry is based on sugarcane. and as of the year 2004,  Brazil produces enough Ethanol to replace about 40% of its gasoline demand.

Most new cars sold in Brazil are multi fueled and can run on ethanol, gasoline, or any blend of the two. In addition, all fuel sold in Brazil contains at least 25% ethanol.

Other countries could learn from Brazil's example which not only provides a cleaner burning fuel, which no doubt contributes to our eco system and pollution rates. Ultimately this will conserve the worlds oil reserves and create a cleaner friendlier environment for us and our children's futures.
